Hello guys

Since I have got more than one good play from this forum, I thought it is time to return the favor.

The fight in question is the european HW titlefight this weekend between the Turk Sanil Sam (the opponent of Gomez in the night of the young HWs) and the albanian German Luan Krasniqi. (very good amateur with wins over Wladimir klitschko)

Sam is the clear favorit around -250 to -350.
If the gomez fight is the only one you have seen of him dont be fooled, this is a tough well conditioned always coming forward fighter, who also was a former amateur super HW champion.
His most impressive win so far the Knock out win over Danny williams, who was very high ranked at that time.
Sam may look fat but he has decent punching power, good conditioning (no bodybuilding muscles)some boxing skills and most of all he is a fighter who is there when the going gets tough and does not chicken out.
His weakest part part is his foot work, he has some kind of foot desease (no road work just bike), he is slow on his foot no doubt about it.
Mobil fighter with a good jab and a solid chin should be able to beat him with no bigger problems.
But how many HW are on the level and Speed of Gomez ? Not to many in my opinion.

Krasniqi is a very good technical fighter, who should be able to outbox Sam.
But Krasniqi is a mental case, he quit against the Pole saleta without any specific reason, he was ahead with five or ssix rounds and than refused to fight after ca the 8 round.
He come back with wins over Sedrick Fields and Julius Francis. Both via dec. and against both he lost the last round.
Problem of Krasniqi is he fades after 8 rounds and doesnt like it if he has to fight on backfoot.
he has a very good chin, was down only once against german Mose.
Krasniqi and sam are Stablemates of Universum and have the same trainer Timm. Timm is preparing Sam and Krasniqi has a new trainer. So Timm should prepare Sam very good for Krasniqi. On the other hand Timm was also the trainer of gomez and it did Sam no good in his fight.
I believe that krasniqi will look very good for the first six to eight rounds and leading on the scorecards. If he moves and jabs and concentrates sam will not catch him.
If he has solved his conditioning problems he has an excellent chance of winning the fight.
5dimes has the preposition Krasniqi on Points with +450 (i got it at +550), thats a very good play in my opinion.
KO Sam is +143.
I like Sam and dislike Krasniqi, but the odds for Krasniqi via dec are just very good.
if you look on boxing forums you will see that a lot of people pick Krasniqi.
if you like betting dogs thats def. a play you should look into. Btw Wsex has Dec Krasniqi at 3 to 1 which seems more realistic.

krasniqi did come right back and k.o. saleyta in one round......

some european friends on another board like krasniqi a little as an underdog....lennox lewis gave him high praise when he sparred with him.........

i like the hedge....looks like a solid possibility....

nice write up...

btw....for me,it looks like march will either be boom or bust depending on some of the odds that post.....

at first blush, march looks very promisiing....

I didnt mention the saleta fight, because it was not a fair contest. Saleta was there to pick up his check. But thats just my opinion.
Looks good on the record but ....
i dont worry about krasniqi koing Sam. Sam winning a decision is not totaly out of the picture if krasniqi fades and goes into defensive mode.

The only time I saw Sam fight was against Gomez and I dont think he's bad for a heavyweight. I think Gomez is the real deal and I think those two were probably the best two fighters on that broadcast. I lost alot of respect for the HBO fools that night because I think theyre clueless. All they did was talk about Mesi who proved to be far from a top heavy. Gomez looked beautiful that night.

Anyway, I didnt think Sam was that bad at all for a heavy.

If the fights goes the distance Gomez beat every HW besides maybe Wladimir Klitschko.
So you have to knock him out to win.
And I dont think a lot of Hw can do it, because he took those shots from Sam with ease and the fight was a beautiful boxing demonstration.
You have to see the positive side of the story, if Gomez fights some hot prospect like Guinn;Mesi or Byrd, you should get decent odds. But Gomez is getting no fights and that tells the truth about his strength but people like Nobles get a title shot.
PS if Guinn can up his work rate he has potential. Mesi o well, we will see if the made the right pick with Jirov. If Jirov boxes like against Toney, he will get koed, but if he uses his boxing skills, which he most definitely has, mesi will be taken apart and lose a wide dec.
Btw do you think that Sosa will rather win via dec or KO ?

guys....gomez is still a blown up cruiserweight(of course, that seems to be what`s happening in a weak heavyweight division).....and from what i saw vs sam,he doesn`t hit hard as a heavyweight.....

i know he has a slew of stoppages as a cruiser....but most were in europe and,for the most part, vs somewhat dubious competition....

i`m not saying the guys a stiff..nothing like that..he`s a talented boxer..very talented.....but vs sam,he had the perfect opponent....a somewhat ponderous guy with poor footwork....

i understand that being the smaller guy and the lesser puncher of the 2,that gomez did much of his punching going backwards....that was basically what was called for...

lets wait and see him vs a more complete fighter before we go overboard...i want to see him him set down on his shots vs someone to see if he can keep better heavyweights honest with his punching power....and how his chin holds up...

i repeat...not a shot at gomez....i still think we have to know more about his power and his chin.......actually,the chin may be even more important.....chris byrd has proven that a solid boxer with minimal power can be successful vs today`s heavyweights...

I agree with you totally Tony. Like I told the guys on the board after that broadcast - I am drooling to see Gomez fight the likes of Rahman, Ruiz, or Tua. I would bet the house on it. And I also agree that the only potential problem that he might have is fighting a giant like Klitschko.

Spinch, I disagree with you and the HBO guys for calling him a soft puncher. Why is he a soft puncher - because he didnt knock Sam down?
I thought Sam had a pretty decent chin. Gomez wasnt looking for a knockout in that fight necessarily. He was doing it the right way. Setting everything up and just out boxing the guy. I think the guy can hit - he just chooses to box instead and if the knockout dosent come it dosent come. Youre right that it was only one fight and we need to see the guy fight again but I was very impressed and thought the HBO guys were clueless for not giving him any credit. I just wish he would come to Vegas and fight one of the better heavies so I can dump 10-20k on him and catch some motherfukers sleeping.

Tony, I dont necessarily think Sosa will win that fight. I just think that since he's more then a 6-1 dog it's something you have to throw 2 bills or so down on. The way he looked against Floyd I think he has a legitimate shot at winning the fight but I dont know if it would be by points or a KO. It would be a value play.

maybe the guy is a vicious puncher as a hevyweight......i just didn`t see it vs sam...he never set his feet.....

all i`m saying is,for me,the jury`s still out.....

but,it sure is a weird heavyweight division....i can`t remember ever seeing such size and weight disparity in so many top contenders....

where the hell is ike ibeabuchi when you need him?

thanks Almy

I just asked about Sosa, because I get +1600 for decision.

Some further information on krasniqi vs sam

1.They fought 2 times as amateurs and both times Krasniqi won a decision. 8 to 3 and 8 to 0.
These fights took place in 1996 and shouldnt be overestimated, but i like that Krasniqi was only hit clean 3 times in six rounds.

2. weigh in results look promising too :

Krasniqi as lighter than ever 101 kg and sam a little bit heavier than usual 108 kg.
Krasniqi says he has "brutal kondition". But he is a talker.
PS I like his new trainer schmitz better than time. And for Schmiz is the chance of a lifetime too, he is training second row and womenboxer of universum.

i laid another 100 on dec Krasniqi.
Although sam seems very determined and ready for this fight, but i hope he will be to slow for K.

Live punchstat numbers can be found at http://www.boxing.de.

So far, the fight, based on the punchstat numbers, could not be more even through 10 rounds. Although it seems as if there is no way of knowing if there have been knockdowns.

the funny thing is Sam started at -200 at Olympic and got bet up so I am sure they did OK on this fight. 5dimes on the other hand probably didn't because they had Kras by decision to high. It went from +650 to under +500

This was two tough evenly matched heavyweights. Just as TonyMontana pointed out, Krasniqi had the superior technical skills. Barring a breakdown of some sort, Krasniqi, not Sam, figured to win. I really didn't feel Luan would be capable of KO on Sinan Sam and only played Krasniqi by dec.

It looks like several others here at the Rx did as well. I sincerely doubt 5Dimes showed anything except RED on this fight, due to the generous odds on Krasniqi by dec. Olympic may have won some early money on Sam. I doubt they booked much late action, as there were better lines elsewhere- both ways.

It's not often you find greater than 2 to 1 on a fighter with superior skills, unless he's facing a devastating KO artiste.
